Welcome to Selinda Suite

“Our brand new Mara Toto Tree Camp, opening on July 1, 2024, is set along the river’s edge and tucked into the canopy of some of the most spectacular ebony trees. Its position creates a hidden haven to retire to between exciting Maasai Mara-based safari drives. It is ideal for those who want to experience Africa the way we have for many years, just better!”

– Dereck Joubert

Selinda Suite

The private Selinda Suite offers an unforgettable Botswana safari experience through its sense of complete remoteness. It rests on the banks of the Selinda Spillway as it enters the Linyanti River.

This Réserve-Collection luxury safari camp is located on the private 130,000-hectare Selinda Reserve, which boasts large herds of elephants, sightings of the African wild dogs, and the famous Selinda Lion Pride, as featured in National Geographic’s film “Birth of a Pride” by Dereck and Beverly Joubert.

The Selinda Suite represents the meeting place of three cultures: European, Mokololo, and Bayei. The area around the Suite holds the true spirit of Africa and is an excellent example of a natural Botswana ecosystem embodying a variety of species and rare animals.

This private 2-bedroom Suite is themed to resemble that of the thatched village of Sangwali. Its architectural design elements centre around Water, Air, Earth and Fire. Spears, shields and an African version of Robinson Crusoe are the enduring themes throughout the camp. Selinda Suite’s design pays homage to Water, with splashes of blue and the crystal-clear swimming pool offering views over the equally immaculate Selinda Spillway to welcome your arrival.

There is a spa in the central area of Selinda Camp. However, guests can also enjoy a range of treatments in the privacy of their Suite or on the open-air deck with views towards the Selinda channel.

The Selinda Suite is a proud Relais & Châteaux member.

Safari Experiences

Right from the camp itself, leopards are often seen, and lions are heard. Explore the Masai Mara safari ecosystem of Kenya in our open safari vehicles with our professional wildlife guides.

With access to the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the more private 28,000-hectare Mara North Conservancy, there is sure to be wildlife action around every corner.

Mara Toto Tree Camp is perfectly positioned to take advantage of two migrations—the famous annual southern migration of over one million animals from the Serengeti and the green season migration from Loita Plains, where over 100,000 zebras and wildebeest arrive from the northwest.

Here, the wildlife viewing opportunities are endless when on your Masai Mara safari.

Big Cats Initiative: Protecting Habitat for Big Cats across Africa

Big Cats need land now more than ever. There are an estimated 44 million acres of land in Africa on which big cats roam. This land is unprotected or under hunting management. Great Plains Conservation and our Foundation’s response to this crisis is to support and secure habitats outside national parks. We work in partnership with local communities and other conservation stakeholders. Great Plains founders Dereck and Beverly Joubert established the Big Cats Initiative, funding multiple projects to preserve land for big cats and reduce human-wildlife conflict. Over a decade later, the Big Cats Initiative has funded 150 projects in 27 countries. We look for good ideas that we can help scale up to prevent and reverse the decline of big cats.
