Welcome to Mara Nyika Camp

“A safari is about creating a story, an ideal dream, and we want to create our own without eroding someone else’s. This is why I spent over three years looking for light or noise pollution and finally settling on an exceptional place for Mara Nyika Camp.

A site where no one else will see our lights or canvas, and one where each time we visited, we saw a male leopard or a lioness and cubs.”

– Dereck Joubert

Mara Nyika Camp

Mara Nyika Camp, meaning “Large Plains or Great Plains,” is an intimate Great Plains Conservation Réserve-Collection safari tented camp.

Set deep in a valley within the private 20,000-hectare Naboisho Conservancy, it is the perfect location for a luxury safari in Kenya.

Mara Nyika Camp and its raised, light-coloured canvas suites are designed to sit under the canopy of the umbrella-thorn trees that stand alongside a small river. All the suites offer guests unforgettable views over the plains.

Raised walkways that link the guest suites to the safari camp’s main area evoke the feeling of a treehouse and allow guests to immerse themselves in nature even further.

The camp’s ethics and inspiration are one of exploration and adventure. Privacy is the key to Mara Nyika Camp. Privacy to live, think, explore, be romantic and be pampered – all the while with one of Africa’s most spectacular backdrops.

Mara Nyika boasts incredible facilities, with a spacious main area overlooking the wilderness, with a library to read while admiring the passing wildlife. For wine enthusiasts, an on-site wine cellar is available for tours and special meals.

Of course, a holiday isn’t complete without bringing home a few souvenirs. The Great Plains Safari Boutique stocks Beverly Joubert’s (co-founder of Great Plains Conservation) d&b explorer collection of stylish safari clothing as well as other memorabilia.

Mara Nyika Camp and its 2-bedroom Sambuk Suite fit into our highest luxury African safari camp level offering, the Great Plains Conservation Réserve-Collection of camps.

They are also proudly Relais & Châteaux members.

Fellow Kenyan Réserve-Collection luxury safari camps are The Sambuk Suite at Mara Nyika, Mara Plains Camp and The Jahazi Suite at Mara Plains, Mara Toto Tree Camp, and ol Donyo Lodge.

Safari Suite

Mara Nyika Camp currently offers guests four luxury guest suites and one 2-bedroom family tent. The private Sambuk Suite at Mara Nyika is also available.

The suites are large, elevated, tree house-styled canvas linked to the main area by raised wooden walkways.

Each guest suite is 1,000 sq. feet in size, offering an indoor private lounge and separate en-suite bathrooms complete with brass baths, double vanity basins, and an indoor shower.

The 2-bedroom Family Suite encompasses a common lounge area flanked by two bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms. One bathroom is complete with an indoor shower and brass bath, and the second bathroom offers a shower only.

A private veranda of each Suite is yours to enjoy as they extend out into the natural world surrounding your suite.

Many guests opt to spend a few days at Mara Nyika Camp and stay at our other Masai Mara-based safari camps – Mara Expedition Camp, Mara Toto Tree Camp, Mara Plains Camp or The Jahazi Suite at Mara Plains. This combination allows one to experience all three wildlife areas: the private Naboisho Conservancies, combining perfectly with the private Olare Motorogi and Maasai Mara National Reserve, resulting in the ultimate luxury safari in Kenya.

Consider adding ol Donyo Lodge in the Chyulu Hills to your safari too.

Each wildlife experience from our camps is unique and offers a different face to the incredible Naboisho and Maasai Mara ecosystems.

Safari Experiences

Guests staying at Mara Nyika Camp explore the private and exclusive 20,000-hectare Naboisho Conservancy, the second-largest conservancy in the greater Maasai Mara region.

Our open-sided, canopied Toyota Land Cruisers, seating a maximum of 4 guests, are complete with fully stocked fridges ensuring comfortable safari drives while enabling photographers to use their skills with our complementary professional cameras during their stay.

“Naboisho” means “coming together” in the Maasai’s Maa language and represents the 500 local landowners who established the conservancy. The conservancy model strives to conserve natural and cultural heritage, tourism, and livelihoods for the local communities. Each guest’s stay supports over 500 Maasai families with a sustainable livelihood and helps to conserve this vital corner of the Maasai Mara ecosystem.

Hot air ballooning is also available at an additional cost for the days guests don’t feel like driving or want to experience something different.
