Welcome to Selinda Camp

“Selinda Camp is filled with art, but I wanted to create a meaningful dialogue with our relationship with elephants in its design. It is an elephant-inspired luxury safari camp in many ways.

As you arrive at Selinda Camp, two giant elephant sculptures encourage you to understand who you are, forgive the past, and redefine your future using elephants as your guides.

Enjoy following lion prides and, of course, the regularly seen herds of elephants—some I have known for 25 years—as they visit this paradise on your safari in Botswana .”

– Dereck Joubert

Selinda Camp

Selinda Camp is handmade in so many ways. This Réserve-Collection luxury safari camp is set in one of the most pristine wilderness areas left on our planet: the banks of Botswana’s Selinda Spillway as it enters the Linyanti River. This area has a sense of remoteness—a true spirit of Africa.

Moulded around the trees, Selinda Camp visualises five essential elements: Earth, Wind, Water, Fire and Metal. As a result, Selinda Camp has a perfectly natural sense of place and balance.

When Dereck Joubert designed Selinda Camp as a real indoor/outdoor safari experience, he wanted to pay homage primarily to elephants. The art in the camp starts with life-sized elephant skull sculptures as you enter the main area, reflecting the art of his late brother, Keith Joubert.

With only three suites, Selinda Camp is an excellent example of what a perfect luxury safari in Botswana should be like. Each suite is complete with a private open-air verandah and swimming pool—the ensuite bathroom is complete with deep, luxurious brass baths, double vanity basins, a flush loo and indoor showers. Heating and cooling air conditioning facilities are over the sumptuous bed, and the bedroom offers guests a writing desk, coffee and tea-making area, and sufficient wardrobe space.

The camp’s main area has a private and relaxing spa area. Guests can also enjoy a range of treatments in the privacy of their suite.

The private 130,000-hectare Selinda Reserve boasts large elephant herds, regular sightings of the Selinda pack of African wild dogs, and the famous Selinda lion pride recently featured in the National Geographic film “Birth of a Pride” by Dereck and Beverly Joubert.

Selinda Camp is a proud Relais & Châteaux member.

Safari Suite

The three expansive, and uniquely designed, guest suites each feature an indoor en-suite bathroom, a large private veranda with outdoor seating and a swimming pool.

Beverly Joubert’s fine art photography adorns each suite.

Each suite offers you a professional camera, lens set and high-quality binoculars for their complimentary use. At the end of your safari, all the images taken are downloaded for free to take home as our gift.

Every suite is inspired by what Livingstone would have had, what he would have travelled with, and what he would have found along with his expeditions.

But beyond that, we go back to the Robinson Crusoe feel, including rope textures, suites under thatch, hammocks, lots of space, nautical elements, and salvaged wood.

Great Plains Female Rangers: Empowering Women on the Front Line of Conservation

The Female Ranger Program invites women from local communities to embark on a 12-month training program equipping them with a plethora of skills, including data collection, first aid, computer skills, driving skills, and more. They are then hired and deployed in our concessions to monitor and manage the biodiversity. Great Plains’ Female Rangers also offers opportunities to shift gender stereotypes, empower vulnerable women, and establish strong female role models for young girls. The long-term conservation impact of this project is equally powerful; female rangers will help foster the community buy-in necessary to preserve Africa’s most precious biodiversity.
